WWT710 - Nutrient, Energy and Water Recovery From Wastewater

View all scheduled course dates

Length: 1 Day
Fee: $325 + tax
CEU Value: 0.7

This one-day course is structured to give wastewater professionals an understanding of the significance of recovering resources from wastewater. The course will reflect a changing paradigm in the water sector on a global scale, focusing on resource recovery and the social, economic and environmental effectiveness and efficiencies of perceiving wastewater as a valuable resource for sustainability, instead of waste needing a means of disposal. Today's trend is the renaming of wastewater plants to Water Resource Recovery Facilites (WRRF).

Enabling Objectives:

The participants shall:
• Understand the importance of recovering nutrients, especially nitrogen and phosphorus, from wastewater and the development of research and technologies to better accomplish this.
• Review the need for nutrients from biosolids for sustainable farming practices.
• Review the Nutrient Management Act of Ontario.
• Understand how wastewater treatment facilities can become water recovery facilities as well as deal with other waste products impacting our environment.
• Understand the value of recovering energy from wastewater and evolving technology to improve it.
• Understand how wastewater can be used and or reused, to deal with water scarcity issues worldwide.
• Review the concept of “One Water” as a philosophy of sustainability management of water resources.
